Overall, I don’t think I will be in hurry to return. I can see why so many people come here, given that it is in a historic part of town and the prices are more than reasonable

The Abbey has great food and nice history and ambiance. It is such a pleasure to get out of the “everyone and every restaurant look alike” environment of Newport Beach and find that there is real charm in other places in Orange County.

It seemed a couple of days ago that my chica and I would experience another disappointing meal at Gabbi’s Mexican Kitchen in Orange, a place I have long championed but has recently acted like another Old Towne Orange battle horse, Felix’s Continental Cuisine: a super-busy restaurant past its prime.

PJ’s Abbey restaurant, with its stained glass windows and some pews inside, still evokes its building’s first occupant: the First Baptist Church of Orange. But now Sunday visitors show up for the food and live jazz.

If you meander to the Old Towne area of Orange, California, and find yourself hungry, I vigorously recommend Felix Continental Café on the southwest side of the traffic circle. It serves traditional dishes from Cuba and the Caribbean, in generous but not overwhelming portions and prices that are easy on the budget.
